Good Router July 2, 2010 James This is my third router with the same model number. This brand/model has been excellent for the last six years. Reliable and reasonably priced.
Poor June 29, 2010 ish697 br /I'm done attempting to connect this unit. Connection has failed repeatedly. Would not recommend this unit.
Hard wire reliability June 25, 2010 T. Smith This is my second Linksys BEFSR41 Router(ver. 4.1) in 8 years. The original one was four years old and would randomly reset itself. Reflashing the firmware would correct the issue for a while. This one is two years old now and haven't had any issues to date. I've got two computers hooked up and two Blu-ray players for streaming VOD, via Cat6 cable run in attic/walls for concealment.
br /
br /Until I have a need for a wireless Router I continue using this reliable model for the time being.
Lasted a month June 15, 2010 Elaine Adamcewicz (Aurora, CO USA) I bought the LinkSys when my 5-year-old Netgear bought the farm (I bought that one used, so it was actually even older than that). I admit, I was lured in by the hot bright blue casing and high-tech style.
br /
br /5 years! Imagine a product manufactured in this era that lasts that long!
br /
br /Now a month later the LinkSys is doing the same thing my Netgear did after 5 years -- intermittent connection. Loading some sites but not others. I can't speak to the poor customer service issue, from reading all the negative reviews here I can see I would just be setting myself up for all kinds of frustration I don't need.
br /
br /Back to shopping, this time for another Netgear. The moral of the story is if a product works, stick with the brand!
br /
br /EDIT: The problem actually was with the power cord, which would randomly stop working I discovered. Any interruption in power between a router/modem/computer requires painstaking turning off/on and waiting to re-establish the setup, which didn't happen with the unnoticed power loss, explaining my spotty connection. I'm now using the old Netgear cord instead and haven't had the problem again, knock on wood.
