Flaky to get setup with a non-mac network, reliable ever since. July 26, 2010 A. Product Reviewer (Allentown, PA) I purchased the airport extreme card for use in an eMac, so that I could have freedom to move the computer without consideration of ethernet cabling. I had a horrible time getting the wireless card to stay on my network. I am using a linksys WRT54G wireless router / access point. I went thought the setting a dozen times and a similar result every time. It would get on, and then fall off the network. The mac was only 20 feet from the router, one floor up. Our two iPod touch units can be used two floors up without any trouble at all. The wireless laptop also had no difficulty whatsoever. I checked the neighborhood and changed channels several times, nothing would do the trick. The mac would even hook up to one of my neighbors unsecured networks and stay locked on without any trouble. After a lot of frustration, and yes many checks of the 26 character security code (which I eventually had memorized after the exercise), and removal and reinstallation to make sure there wasn't a bad connection, I moved the access point to directly under the mac, one floor down. Solution found, it now stays connected and hasn't given me any trouble since! Not ideal, but it is working.
Great for iMac PowerPC G4 April 19, 2010 D. Menges (MD) Works great. Bought this for my aging iMac 1 Ghz PowerPC G4. Installed quickly. It immediately recognized my wireless router, but didn't connect to it until I used the "assist me" function and created a network. Now I'm good to go.
Functions well after being set up properly April 16, 2010 David A. Minnich (Philadelphia, PA USA) This product arrived in a flat cardboard envelope with no padding which caused me some concern but it works fine. I had some trouble getting it to connect to my wireless network because it kept saying that the network required a password and I was using my "password" instead of my "pass key" (which is a 26 character WEP key). Once I put in the 26 character key it worked immediately. Only problem is that whenever I turn the Airport off I need to reenter the 26 character key when I turn it back on - doesn't seem to be any way to save the key so it is available automatically. I'm new to this device so it could be a case of "user headspace".
Good but not good by itself... February 11, 2010 Kyle J. Simmons It's really easy to install but I have a g5 and it's hard to pic up a good signal strength because the card doesn't go through the computer's metal well. If you take off the cover you can have full connection but you probably shouldn't leave the cover off. Then you can set up an extreme base or w/e but thats not 100% reliable. best thing to do is get an external atennae to put on the back and you'll have full signal strength...
Excellent Service, Excellent Item, Easy Installation February 7, 2010 S. Hayden (Atlantic City, NJ) This Airport was delivered super quickly via First Class Mail .. Seller was friendly and prompt! Installation for the AirPort was incredible. I have never opened up a computer or installed anything computer-related in my life, and this was a breeze. I downloaded the instructions from the Apple Site (Specifically my computer's year and make) and it popped right in. Airport worked right away without any problems and I get 4 BARS (All Full) of reception from our wireless network even though the hub is through the ceiling and on the other side of the house. Overall, I am extremely happy with the purchase and falling in love all over again with Apple's simplicities!
