I'm a enthusiast... Linksys August 28, 2010 Antonio Severo de Castro Jr (Londrina, PR Brazil) Excellent product, It is not for those are not familiar with voip configuration but, very flexibly . I'm a enthusiast of Linksys
Very powerful and flexible, not for the novice August 17, 2010 Ivan (Tallahassee, FL United States) I'm using the SPA3102 as a POTS to VoIP interface for Asterisk. So far I have only used the FXO port, so my review is based on that part of the device's functionality only.
The unit works well. The documentation included on the CD is a fairly complete technical reference, but don't expect much in the way of explanation or tutorial. If you are not comfortable reading manuals or online documentation, this is not the gizmo for you. I give it only 3 stars for ease of use because, well, it's a complicated device with lots of configuration options. The options aren't hard to use, but knowing (guessing?) what options to change is the tough part.
The FXO interface works well. I found that I needed to change the POTS to VoIP gain to 3 dB for my weak phone line. Also I changed the answer on ring delay to 3 seconds (default is 16 seconds). Most of the out-of-the-box settings work just fine. There are tutorials on the web for how to set it up to use with an Asterisk system. Just google "SPA3102 Asterisk" or "SPA3102 FreePBX". It's mostly a matter of getting the SIP parameters, digit dialplan, and the right codecs.
The only negative thing I have to say is that the unit runs hot. I recommend putting it in a place where air can circulate around it for cooling.
This unit is a great way to interface an Asterisk system to POTS lines and equipment. It's much less expensive than the FXO/FXS cards from Digium, and doesn't require installation inside a computer. There's no software drivers needed either, all you do is edit the Asterisk sip.conf file to add support for the unit.
Good product for a low price August 2, 2010 RACT I bought this ATA because i needed to make outbound calls through a PSTN gateway, using my Asterisk IP PBX. This device comes with one FXS and one FXO Port.
For my primary purpose, the ATA does the job. In the beginning i had serious echo problems but after doing some research in forums and tweaking the FXO port (Port used to connect the PSTN line) impedance parameters and echo cancellation options, the echo disappeared almost in a 100%. Now i can have clear conversations.
In regards to the FXS port (Port used to connect a phone), it just can receive calls from the other extensions in my IP PBX, period. No matter how hard i try, it has been impossible to make a call from that port. The ATA makes an automatic fallback from the FXO to the FXS port and it never let me use the port to call any other extension in the PBX. I disabled the fallback option and even upgraded the firmware but the problem is still there. I don't know if my ATA came with a factory problem or something but at least this port doesn't work as it should do.
This router is not made for the use with VONAGE May 11, 2010 T. Bombay 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I don't have anything against the router itself, it may work wonderfully. What I am disappointed is in Amazon description of the product on their website, they have the product listed on the page with routers that work with Vonage (this could of been a web designer's mistake). I purchased the product and when I went to register the MAC # with Vonage it was not accepted!
Amazon's customer service was very polite and helpful, they refunded my money and shipment cost. If you are buying a router to be used with Vonage contact them, and make sure that the router you are planning to buy will work with their system.
Misleading info from Cisco April 1, 2010 S. Jacobs 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
I purchased these units on the advice from Cisco. I am trying to remote an analog telephone line over a WIFI network. I have two buildings, and telephone lines come into one building, and a phone is needed in the remote building. WIFI connects the two buildings. I spoke to a pre-sales Cisco consultant, and they recommended to use one of the units on each end, and it would be simple to configure them do what I want. Well, I got the two units, and after downloading the 250 page administrators guide, and reading it, I still had no better idea as to how to configure these devices. I called Cisco support, and they sent me a 4 page document on how to do what I want. I configured the units according to the document (I didn't think the configuration would work), and, of course it didn't work. When I called Cisco back for additional help, I was told that what I am trying to do is unsupported and probably won't work anyway, and they said "we won't help you try to configure it". So much for Cisco's presales advice. I am returning these devices and hope I can find another solution.
