    5 out of 5 stars Works with Bold 9700   August 26, 2010
    Y. Yoshimoto
Bold 9700 w/ v5.0.0.602 and PHS 300 w/ HW ver 1.1 and FW ver 2.1 upgraded to latest FW from Cradlepoint. After following few knowledge base settings on ppp and APN, worked just fine. Don't know why Cradlepoint won't list as one of the supported devices.

5 out of 5 stars Plug And Play!   August 8, 2010
    S. Wussow (WI, USA)
A friend recommended this to me when she heard that my husband and I were driving each other crazy trying to share my wireless modem. My friend had experienced the same problem with her husband and this saved the day for them. She couldn't say enough great things about it.

The PHS300 arrived from the Amazon seller well-packed, and within just a couple of days.

It was literally a plug and play experience: unwrap the item, plug it into the wall, plug the USB modem into it. Use Mac's AirPort to find the network, which appeared with no problems. Started up my browser, and was greeted by a request for the password, which is right on the Cradlepoint unit. And both computers were then connected - in less than fifteen minutes (and with no help from my husband. Did I mention my friend is in her 60s? This truly is easy for ANYONE to use.)

If you want more details, or to modify certain settings (for instance, modify that start-up password to your own choice), there are great printed instructions included, as well as programming via your browser. Very easy to use.

I'd read previous reviews which said to be sure to update the unit's firmware via a download, but my unit shipped with the most current version so that wasn't necessary. Had it been, I was able to find the means to do so easily.

The unit works throughout our house. There is no noticeable loss of connection speed. If we shut the computers down and then re-start, we have only to use the AirPort menu to reconnect to the network again; after sleep mode, the computers are "still connected" when we wake them up.

We've been really pleased with the PHS300's performance and would recommend it to others wishing to save their marriages. Best money we've ever spent for anything computer-related. :D

1 out of 5 stars Be careful for Sprint 4G (or newest 3G cards)   August 3, 2010

Bought a PHS300 and that worked with my old U727 3G Sprint USB stick and it worked like a charm. Then I upgraded to a Franklin U301 4G USB stick which wouldn't work with my old 1.0 version of the hardware Slightly miffed but technology marches on so I bought a brand new one from Electronica Direct here on Amazon.

The 2.0 hardware has been out for a while so I came here not expecting them to send me the older 1.x version which is what they did. If you buy this beware that you might be getting older hardware that _won't_ work with 4G cards at all. You'll have to send it back. Thankfully Amazon is amazingly cool and groovy about this and send me a return label within a matter of minutes.

It's not the end of the world but having to faff about sending this back and getting a new, more expensive one directly from Cradlepoint is tedious.

Note that if you do own the older hardware Cradlepoint will give you a [...] credit towards a new one. You can get that by asking them for a rebate form either though email or the live chat on their Web site. Also note you have to physically send them the old hardware back. Better than nothing.

If Cradlepoint had called the 2.0 version of the hardware the PHS301 or something to differentiate it you wouldn't be reading this! Not very cool really.

tl;dr: Beware of being shipped older 1.x hardware as it won't work with newest 4G USB sticks.

I had to upgrade the firmware as soon as I received it for it to recognize my Virgin Mobile dongle but after that it has worked great.

1 out of 5 stars DOES NOT WORK WITH 4G DEVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   July 5, 2010

Works fine, easy setup. Just be aware that if you think you are going to upgrade to 4G at some point, the item for sale here on Amazon is not (and cannot be updated) for 4G. If you buy the exact same model from the manufacturer, it has different hardware and will work for 4G. This kind of obnoxious planned obsolescence really pisses me off. I bought this item less than 6 months ago and it's already worthless to me and I have to buy a whole new router to get 4G speeds.
