Product Description
The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but a bit of deception in advertisement   March 8, 2010

Generally I like this product, however there is one thing you should be aware of prior to purchase. It advertises that it has the capability to connect a printer/external hard drive via USB. What they don't say is that you HAVE to pay ADDITIONAL money for software to use this function. I generally have been very happy with Linksys products, but this really gave me a ripped off feeling. If you read the description you would think that the function of connecting and using a printer or hard drive via USB is included with the purchase of the product. Otherwise, the unit works fine as long as you are not expecting to connect a printer or hard drive to another computer on your network.

Ive been a avid user of Linksys router products for years. br /Currently I have a middle of the road PC with Win7 configuration. br / br /Music is important in our house. After much research I found the best way to share music wirelessly is through Airport Express off itunes. I bought 3 Airport Expresses this experience did not go well. br / br /Come to find Linksys does not play well with APX. It had trouble seeing prioritizing them on the network I had drop outs of audio constantly (Very annoying). I did all the things I could do: Changed the robustness, changed the broadcast channel, scanned for interference, set up QOS mac address based priority. Still: SAME PROBLEM. br / br /Eventually I bought an Apple Airport Extreme Router. br /It sets up in 1/2 the time with 1/10 the steps works great on my PC with my APX set up. Cant say that Linksys didnt work, but it certainly didnt work well enough.

If you have set up any of the Linksys products you will be able to set this up in flash. The added Dual band antenas and rang of supported network cards is great. It has 2 wireless band features that it supports. This allows for you to support the newer technology cards and the older card technology. I will soon be adding the storage option to the router to allow for media server support to my wireless picture fram and PS3. br / br /This is a must buy. br /

I'm returning the WRT610N after having it for less than 24 hours. I couldn't get a consistent wired connection and no wireless connection at all. I'm fairly tech savvy and did all the troubleshooting I could. I ended up calling Cisco Linksys and they diagnosed the problem as having the incorrect power adapter for the router. The one shipped with the unit had a 12V 2A output and Cisco customer service claims it should be a 12V 1.5A output - 1.5V matches the specs on the Cisco website ([...]), but printed on the router itself is 2A. So I'm not sure what is correct. However, what made me realize that this was not worth the effort was when Cisco claimed that it was Amazon's fault for packing the incorrect power adapter with the router. When I explained it was a brand new sealed boxed unit, Cisco went on to try and convince me that Amazon may have been inspecting the product and mixed up power adapters... plausible, but unlikely. Cisco's resolution was that I needed to contact Amazon to request a new power adapter. I contacted Amazon who stated that this wasn't their fault, but they'd happily exchange or return the item. This was my first Cisco Linksys product and due to my negative experience I didn't want an exchange, so I returned it, and will look for a router from another manufacturer.

1 out of 5 stars This is garbage of the highest order   March 2, 2010
Duane C. Mallory (Sterling, VA United States)
This is the worst product ever made. The setup is a nightmare, requiring tweak after tweak to even get a simple connection from a wireless client. The range on the 5 Ghz radio is abysmal. I have 3 5 Ghz clients - the furthest being a maximum of 30 feet away - and the signal quality comes in at 22%. Surely this is some kind of a joke - my cordless 5 Ghz phone works all the way across the street! Another issue is the radios reset themselves constantly. I do not mean the router reboots itself; I mean the radios literally reset themselves causing communications with the clients to be lost until the reset is complete. Customer support? Forget about it - it is obviously based overseas, and the support agents apparently have no clue as to how the product works; you are on your own with this unit! br / br /If you need something similar to this product, I would suggest you look at ANY other manufacturer - this is one product you will not be happy with.
