4 out of 5 stars You might wait a few minutes for WPA2 negotiation, but it certainly does the job   July 26, 2010
Robin Rosenberger (Midwestern Cornbelt, USA)
I bought it for my RV truck. It certainly does the job. However, the router apparently needs a few more minutes after bootup before it can negotiate WPA2/PSK with a hidden eSSID. (Maybe it wants to establish a 3G gateway before doing a client link?) WEP doesn't seem to have a wait problem. You might consider WEP if you use this router in a vehicle on short trips.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent 3G router - works with Cricket UM185C   July 3, 2010
Shawn Ross
I purchased this router because I had problems finding a router compatible with Cricket Wireless's UM185C 3G modem. Netgear routers (the brand I usually use for wireless routers) do not work. After considerable online research, this router was the only one that listed the Cricket UM185C modem in its compatibility list (ALWAYS check the compatibility lists from the modem manufacturer before you buy!). br / br /Upon arrival, the router did not recognize the modem, a problem that was solved with a firmware update (you'll need version 2.5 or newer). After the update, which was relatively simple, the router recognized the modem and we were in business. br / br /The router itself is very small, maybe a quarter the size of a typical wireless router (a little bigger than a deck of cards). It has no external antenna. Nevertheless, after getting it up near the ceiling, it produced a signal strength throughout our house comparable to a fill-sized Netgear router. The http interface is intuitive, at least as good as Netgear, perhaps better - initial setup took maybe 10-15 minutes, including updating the firmware. The router does not automatically configure itself for secure wireless, but setup is simple and worked on the first try (WPA2-personal). You can "refresh" (read: reset) your modem through the web interface (on the info screen, hitting the "refresh" button does not merely update the information displayed, it resets the modem). br / br /Note that the router is only IEEE 802.11 b/g (not n), but if your main purpose is to distributing a 3G connection (as opposed to streaming A/V files or otherwise sharing large amounts of data), that won't make any difference - your internet connection will run at maybe 500 KBS to 1 MBS, and 802.11 g proves //54 MBS// - your 3G modem will be the bottleneck, not the router (and 802.11 g is compatible with older devices). Unless you have a //really// old computer hanging around, set the router to run in "802.11 G only" mode for a slight increase in performance. br / br /Overall this router is excellent. If you are a Cricket customer (a good option for 3G if you don't want to sign a contract), it's your best (and perhaps only) bet, supporting all three of the modems available through Cricket.

5 out of 5 stars Great product   June 27, 2010

Works as advertised. Setup was a breeze and the through-put was excellent. I would definitely buy this product again. Oh, and they sent me a free car charger when I registered the product.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful travel accessory   May 14, 2010

How cool would it be to have a device about the size of a deck of cards that was a personal/portable 'hotspot' that could provide instant wifi access anywhere, not just for you but for a dozen friends or devices? Laptop, iPad, iPod Touch? It's not science fiction, it's the Cradlepoint CTR-350 Mobile Broadband Travel Router. br / br /I took it out of the box, plugged in my 3G wireless card, and my netbook and iPad were online with almost no configuration, in about two minutes. Ok - that wireless card is the "catch." This Travel Router has a USB slot where you can plug in a "3G data modem" card which typically is used to connect a single laptop to the internet via a 3G mobile service plan. The card I have is the Sierra Wireless 881u which works well. The cost for the data plan varies, but isn't too expensive with a 1-2 year plan. br / br /IF you already have some kind of data modem, the CTR350 travel router lets it work simultaneously with up to a dozen wifi devices and is a super buy. Some people can instead use a smart phone with "tethering" capability to provide the access. If you don't yet have the modem, and either travel a lot or don't yet have broadband it might be worth considering. br / br /If you have a data modem that is an express card, instead get the model Cradlepoint Travel Router CTR-500. If you want a battery powered personal hotspot, Cradlepoint has a model called the Cradlepoint PHS300 Personal Hotspot (Black). The CTR-350 and CTR-500 have the added advantage of an Ethernet jack, so you can use it to either hook up a computer without wifi, or you can use the router with your cable model as a Wifi access point. br / br /Even better, talk your boss into getting your team one, so that you can be productive at all times, even on the road, as a passenger in a car on a long drive, or on-site at a client's location.

4 out of 5 stars Great little router. Support is another issue.   April 28, 2010

Router works great. Little if any set-up. I have a VPN client I still can't get to work through it. After many attempts to get help from website and by phone, I have yet to receive any answer back with help.
