Not the best installation instructions, but after a call to customer service (very polite and helpfull), it worked fine. My laptop speed with a Linksys adaptor, increased from 54 mbps to 103.

5 out of 5 stars Great Wireless N Router for the Money   July 26, 2010

I got this router as a replacement for my old wireless G router. That old router had a lot of configuration options that I installed through 3rd party firmware. I was afraid to upgrade because I thought I might lose the level of configuration that I had. br / br /This router has any possible configuration option that you can think of. To name a few: Static DHCP clients, Multiple Wireless Encryption Algorithms, and Virtual Server. br / br /This router supports gigabit ethernet (CAT-6 cables), and the wireless N networks are capable of speeds up to 300 Mbps (I verified that). If you are going to use this for any wireless N devices, you MUST configure it properly. There are a couple of odd settings that I was confused about at first, but after some googling, I found the appropriate optimal settings.

I just purchased the TRENDnet TEW 639GR wireless router. It worked great for two days and then it would not work at all. There was no customer service/technical support telephone number in any of the information inside the box, so TRENDnet's help wasn't an option for me. I had a tech savvy friend come and look at it and he discovered that everytime the router was plugged into the modem, it would mess up the modem and would draw electricity from the modem too!! My husband talked to our tech savvy friend this weekend and he said he was tried to help another friend of his who had purchased the same TRENDnet wireless router and it was doing the same thing. This piece-of-junk wireless router is definitely going back. br / br /BUYER BEWARE!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER!!!

5 out of 5 stars Nice for the price   July 24, 2010

Pros: br / br /I never have to reset it br /It can work as N only br /It is very easy to configure br /It allows static IP assignments br /It fully supports WPA2 br / br /Cons: br / br /It is single-band (2.4GHz), not dual (2.4GHz and 5GHz) br /The web interface is slow br /The signal doesn't travel as far as more expensive routers br / br /Other thoughts: A good dual-band router costs about $150 at the moment. For $60 this router is a pretty good value. It will work really well in smaller homes or offices. In my current 6000sq.ft abode, it has problems going through certain walls unless the signal is wireless-N only. As a result I'm using 2 routers to cover the whole house; This one for the newer devices, and another router to support older laptops, wireless cards, and smartphones. br / br / br / br /

5 out of 5 stars Been working flawlessly for over 7 months   July 16, 2010

I got this router as Black Friday special back in November 2009. So far, it's been nothing but stellar, more reliable than the Linksys and Netgear routers I've owned previously. I think I've had to power cycle it once maybe? I've never seen it drop a wireless connection either. I am using both wireless and wired clients and a home server on this router with no issues. It also doesn't even get warm so I am able to keep it in a cabinet out of the way on the top floor. br / br /Only one small part of installation was a little tricky. When I first plugged it in, it was not obtaining an IP from my Comcast modem. All I had to do was reset the Comcast modem (there is a little recessed button on the top that you stick a paperclip into) and then all was well after that. br / br /This has been surprisingly reliable from a brand seemingly outside the mainstream. I have great wireless coverage all around the house and in the yard. I was able to setup security and MAC filtering with ease on this router whereas on my Netgear I just had to give up - it never worked right. And when it was on special it was a total steal. All those things together are well beyond my expectations (which are low for wireless routers). Well done, TRENDnet! br / br /
