I purchased this router from a supplier on Amazon after a fair bit of research. This only proves that on-line reviews are unreliable. So, take this one with the same skepticism. When I received the item I found that the price had been reduced to 50% of what I paid for it. That was not the worst problem. Following the setup directions in the package and dvd that came with the item was worthless. I spent a full day trying to get the damn thing to work. I ended up calling the techies at Cisco (they are in the Phillipines)for help. After another day on the phone with them they were successful in manually installing the item. Cisco-Linksys WRT400N Dual-Band Wireless-N Router br / br /They take telephonic control of your computer and do all the work to get it running. While they do this they tell you that what you purchased was not their newest or best and try to get you to return your router to the vendor and buy a new item from them (at a discount of course.) After telling you all the problems with your purchase and how you will continue to have problems with it they direct you to their computer optimization department. There, they try to sell you another long-distance service to optimize your computer. br / br /I've only had the thing operating for a day and a half and it seems to be OK. However, it does run pretty hot so I don't know how long it will last or how much of a fire hazard it is or how much trouble I'll have with it. My recommendation is: don't buy it.

I would describe myself as an above average tech consumer (although, given that a lot of people say that, perhaps there's a new average). For some reason though, I had been using a B/G adapter for the past few years, and never really thought about upgrading. br / br /Boy, am I glad I did. br / br /The best part of the N aspect for me was the increased range. I never had trouble with speed with my old adapter, but the range just wasn't enough, even after buying an expensive (and surprisingly useless) wireless range extender. br / br /The WRT-400N has drastically increased my range, and the power/bandwidth that comes with it. br / br /I highly recommend an upgrade. br / br /One quick cautionary note: there has been much hoopla made about dual-band routers, meaning that they broadcast on the 5.0GHZ spectrum along with the 2.4GHZ spectrum. The argument is that on the 5.0 spectrum, there is less interference from things like cordless phones and microwaves. It's true, but here's what you should be careful of: make sure your computer can pick up a 5.0GHZ signal before you buy one of these. Otherwise, you'll have spent more money on a dual band router, and you won't be able to take advantage of that aspect. It will still work on the 2.4GHZ, but then there's no need to buy a dual band. br / br /Enjoy!

This was my first wireless router so I wasn't sure how the process would work out. I have to say that this product was insanely easy to set up and start using. I don't know why I always get amazed when a product works the way it is supposed to on the first try but I do. I'm very happy.

Great router. More bandwidth compared to my old "g". I hit 140 Gbps on it. I am impressed. The only think you should be aware of is that you can not have two or more applications managing the wireless network. You will need to disable one or uninstall the Cisco version. If you have two or more the internet will not work. Other thanthat I am veryy happy with my router.

The set up is fairly easy on a windows XP computer. Cisco/Linksys offer on line chat help that is available and helpful if you have any issues. I've been using it for about a week with no problems or concerns. The data ports are great if you want to be hard wired to the router. The wireless speed is good and faster than my older desktop with a wireless adapter. This product does exactly what you would expect it to do. If you buy a wireless adapter for your desktop, it seems like a good idea to get one from Cisco/linksys so online chat help can get you hooked up no matter which product is the problem. Make sure the router passwords for both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands match or you will have trouble connecting to the wireless network. I'm happy with the AE1000 wireless adapter I purchased.
