1 out of 5 stars Wish this router worked as well as a cordless phone.   September 4, 2010
K. McWilliams (Michigan)
My cordless phone can receive a signal any place in my house, not so with this router.

Did my research at Cisco internet site, purchased through Amazon. I knew I would have trouble with most any brand of router. Thought paying a little more and getting a small business wirless router would be better. I'm using a Cisco Expresscard slot receiver on my computer with the N wirless standard.

Need to share with nieghbors through home walls and about 30 feet to 100 feet away. Will go through one wall up to 100 feet away.

In my home, going through two walls (studs and wall covering of wood) 20 feet away, works only 10% of time (gave up on that location).

Needed to send my router signal to my printer or work at the printer station 30 feet away from router on first floor to second floor. Just not possible. Sharing another neighbors signal last year with there cheap cable company router I could get a good weak signal 80 feet away through two exterior walls, but if it rained I lost there siganl.

I know that depending on angle of signal to computer, total thickness of walls, stud and floor joist, I could be going through 2 feet of wood, but why does my cordless phone work under these conditions using some of the same technology?

I started wiring my home for Ethernet Cat 5 cable a few years ago and will finish it now as wireless is just not very good.

1 out of 5 stars Rebranded linksys... Full of issues, not worthy of the 'Cisco' title.   September 1, 2010
C. Roys
I wish I had purchased this at a time when other reviewers had weighed in on it.

This unit, indeed, is full of attractive features. But there's so many issues, and no support from Cisco other than being directed to a support forum where *MAYBE* *EVENTUALLY* someone *SOMEDAY* will help you.

The issue I had was with outgoing traffic being corrupted. Invalidating SSL sessions for WWW or SFTP, or just serving up corrupt webpages.

Also the web interface is sluggish, and prone to crashing.

Just awful. You'd be much better off buying a Linksys WRT unit from 8 years ago for $20, honestly.

1 out of 5 stars Would not buy again   August 18, 2010
Jason C. Majchrowicz (Lakeview, NY)
I purchased this router for a small Lan. I needed a VPN firewall to allow remote access to my LAN. I had issues as soon as I plugged this unit in. The router, in thoery, is full of features. However the issues I have had with it have cost me dearly in down time and aggrevation.

1.) Router has issue with DNS routing when network is at peak load. We see many "Page cannot be displayed" errors regularly across our network.
2.) Router is responsible for email attachments and file downloads being corrupted.
3.) Cisco support is zip, zero, nil on these issues.

After two weeks of headaches, and wasting time and effort on this unit, I am going to try to return it.
There are just too many issues for this to be relied upon on our network.

I don't know if it is a firmware or hardware issue. My opinion: LOOK AT OTHER UNITS until CISCO fixes this unit.

Look at the CISCO support threads if you need other opinions. I wish I saw all the issues with this and other RV routers before I purchased this.

1 out of 5 stars poorly made device   August 1, 2010
Simon (san jose, ca)
1 the vpn function nevered worked.

I tried many client to vpn with RV120, it never worked even thought it showed "connected" on router.
It also sent cpu utilization to 100%, and then you lose all the function for wireless/internet access.

2 the ethernet port is problematic.

I have wireless clients which worked fine, but my servers connected with ethernet port can not download or uploade files/images correctly. They all end up corrupted. While the same file/image could be download/upload over wireless correctly. I swaped the ethernet port, I swaped the pc, the problem followed the ethernet ports.

3 I have to fall back to my old old netgear wireless router, then everything just works fine.

1 out of 5 stars Stopped Working After 1 day   July 30, 2010
Xtec
Seem to have good features and it was set up by our techie. Suddenly stops working after one day. Wasted tech time in troubleshooting. Cisco support cannot figure it out either (too new). Plugged back our old router and all was fine. Not a good one.
