5 out of 5 stars I love it!   August 18, 2010

Works great with my Dell latitude in both Windows 7 and Linux. The whole GoFlex product line is one of the best tech related things I have seen in a long time.

5 out of 5 stars WORKS GREAT on my Sony Laptop   August 17, 2010

Bought this to go with the 500 GB GoFLex pro Hard drive for my Windows based computer with Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit version. I have a Sony Vaio model # VPCF115FM and it was plug and play. Works better then expected after reading other reviews. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for an eSATA portable hard drive and wants really fast hook up.

3 out of 5 stars Be Certain You Have eSATAp Before You Buy!   August 14, 2010

I like the GoFlex system and looked forward to increasing the speed when connected to my home desktop by using this eSATA cable rather than USB 2.0. No such luck. Dead. Turns out, you have to have a powered "eSATAp" port on your machine. Many eSATA ports are not. Since the portable GoFlex (2.5") drives do not use AC adapters and depend on the cable for power, you must have an eSATAp port. It would have been nice if this were made clear on Amazon. I found it out when I went to Seagate's site when my drive would not run. Too bad I threw away the package, so I'm out $13. Time to buy an USB 3.0 card for my computer.

5 out of 5 stars Really fast   July 21, 2010

This interface option is well worth the price. I wanted a fast portable external drive and the eSATA plug for the GoFlex drive is an excellent solution. On Windows 7, using USB 2.0 (I don't have USB 3.0 but do have built in eSATA) I was getting about 26MB/second. With the eSATA plug I am getting 78MB/second for a group of files, almost 3 times as fast. While I realize that SATA has a much higher maximum throughput, 3Gb/second, 2.5" drives do not. The applications that heavily access the drive seem to run as fast as they do on the internal drive.

Pros: Speed, convenience, price

Cons: I would like the cord to be a little longer or to be replaceable.

3 out of 5 stars Does not work with GoFlex Desk   June 26, 2010

This is probably a fine cable adapter for the other GoFlex drives but be aware it does not work with the GoFlex Desk series of drives. The Desk model uses too much power for the eSATA connection to provide. I wasted $25 finding this out, thinking that all GoFlex accessories worked across the product line - NOT. Seagate does make a powered Firewire adaptor for the Desk. That would be the STAE105. You get twice the speed of a USB 2 connection for about $50; seems high to me.
